Who thinks that SF59's work after "Leave here a stranger" gets spotty? I tend to not like the later releases nearly as much as LHAS and before. "My Island" was nice, IATPB shouldn't have happened, TV Vs. SV doesn't sound like an SF59 record to me and half of "Old" is good, but none of these are as stellar as their early releases. Not to start a fight, but I feel like I'm the only fan who isn't wooed over by their post 2001 work...

You're not completely alone. I know there's a few people on the Velvet Blue message board that think it's all been downhill since The Fashion Focus. Or since Gold. Or Silver.

Jason's work is diverse enough that all types of crazies can find something to enjoy in the Sf catalog.

Personally, Old and Talking Voice Vs Singing Voice are my two favorites.

i disagree. which half of old dont you like? that entire record is pretty fantastic. a work of genius. i think jasons work has been very consistently good and increasingly innovative. as good as silver and gold are they sound very similar to my bloody valentine.

I like various tracks throughout Old. It's not like a first half/second half type of thing like on a cassette or something.

But to each their own. I just don't like some of the "pop" stuff. It's not bad, but not great either... Just my opinion.

I've always liked Shoegazer more than indie pop.

I disagree. I think LHAS is the worst thing they have done. I think TVvsSV is the best thing since EBMM and I enjoy all the other post LHAS releases. BTW is that a Dimestore Prophets cd cover as your avatar? I loved that band. Cool

I really enjoy their newer albums and don't care so much for Silver or Gold or Americana.  I still listen to them from time to time, but for me SF59 started from Fashion Focus.  I know I am probably the only one. Undecided

Everything else pales in comparison to the glorious awesomeness of I am the Portuguese Blues.

Yes, that's my avatar and no, I've never heard them before. I was looking for SF59 related images to use because my scanner is being stupid and found it on Jason71's website. I guess he did the album artwork for it. I like the art, but know nothing about the actual band.  I'll have to hear something sometime...thanks for the heads-up.

I have a Dimestore Prophets CD, their first one, entitled 'Love Is Against the Grain'.

Great CD. Saw them live at Colorado Christian University back in 1996 or 1997. They opened up for Five Iron Frenzy. That night I met Masaki, very cool guy, and bought his Rivulets and Violets instrumental CD. Amazing stuff that I've pretty much worn out over the years.
