It's growing on me.
First time I heard it--about five years ago, I guess--I was completely baffled. Didn't like it at all, but for whatever reason, it made enough of an impression on me to make me hang onto the songs.
Just recently I decided to give the album another try, and now I really like it.

I kind of stopped listening to JE after Christian Songs or the White Songbook. I like Melody better than all the other albums and even though serious fans like Jono would disagree, I don't think there is a better Joy E album than Melody.

I agree with you Truckers Son the last album i have purchased is Tick Tock Treasury and his best album is Definitely Melody (then Robot Rock, then Christiansongs) I have heard the songs he releases on myspace and such for every album since TTT and i am never impressed i don't know what it is but something is missing (melody?, happiness?) though i loved Brothers martin, and foxglove hunt (ronald of orange even sounded pretty good) anyways TTT's title song is the only thing i remember liking on that album and that is my 2 cents - ha

Yeah, Ronnie just stopped writing happy songs right after CHRISTIANsongs. Except he also stopped writing overwrought angsty stuff -- the later albums don't have lyrics like "I would be so happy / if the world would not ignore me / in my place there will be stories / of a boy who died of sorrow / with his monosynth".
I still love the later stuff. Hello Mannequin would be my favorite because there's so many great melodies. Also love The White Songbook for the arrangements; it's basically Ronnie at his prog-rock-iest.

The Tick Tock Companion is great, but I still don't listen to it pretty much ever... it's just a little too long and indigestible. I'd have liked the concept better as shorter experimental improvised pieces, like "Hello Mannequin Part Two" and "Chronometers of Switzerland" and stuff like that. Also, I feel a little proud being thought of as a "serious fan."

I think I'm in the majority expressed so far on this one. Best = Melody, 5 Stars for Failure, Robot Rock 2nd Best = Christian Songs, White Songbook Purchased everything up through the White Songbook and then only Hello Mannequin after that. Best Songs: Sorcery, Drum Machine Joy, Girl from Rosewood Lane, North Sea, Monosynth, Robot Beat, Courage (Someday I'll be Heard)

I really have been digging 'true harmony' lately. I wish there were more songs like that on the newer albums.

as far as i think, The White Songbook, Tick Tock Treasury, and Hello Mannequin are just pure genius. everything else can never ever have been written, and i wouldnt lose a wink of sleep. i mean, i enjoy the otehr records.... but those three just hung the moon for me. tick tock to me was definitely his swan song, i think.

Man, all I have are mp3's. If you could hook me up with FLAC files, I'd really appreciate it.
