I am patiently waiting for this. Still my favorite album of all time - I can't wait to see all that can go into it!

What is the original Gold CD version like? I have the original Silver and re-release and the original has quite a thick booklet of artwork and lyrics, so I'm wondering if I need to get the original Gold CD, too.

Also, did One Shot Juanita have the sound of a needle drop added to it on the original? Do you like the original mastering better? Listening to the original Silver and then the re-release Gold, Gold has a 'muffled' sound. Without the original Gold I don't know if this is due to the remastering or just difference in how they were recorded.

If anything, the original version of Gold is more muffled than the remastered version. But the remastered version also sacrifices the dynamics—the quiet parts of the songs are louder, compared to the original. But YMMV on how noticeable that is. I know several people alleged that Gold was completely ruined by the remastering, but I personally can't tell much difference.

As for the liner notes, there's a pretty thick book. Instead of song lyrics, there's a bunch of fake record labels, as if each song were a 7" vinyl single. If you've seen the packaging for the Ghosts of the Future box set, all of those vinyl labels are based off the ones from the Gold liner notes.

(Wooooo, my 1111th post.)

The Gold liner notes are my all-time favorite liner notes of any album, any artist, period. That was such a perfect idea and perfect for the album too. The little one-liners were classic too. Personal favorite - "Music to make you see stars." I really, really hope the new vinyl reissue pays homage to the liner notes. I think the remastered version totally dropped the ball on that.

YMMV?

What about One Shot Juanita - has that always had the needle drop?

I'm pretty sure Next Time Around/Goodbyes Are Sad have it because it was literally taken from vinyl for Easy Come.

Sounds like I need the original, too. I bought Silver new in 04 at a Christian bookstore for $3.99.

Other than Amazon, are there any good Christian music sites to get something like the original Gold CD new and really cheap?

YMMV?

Your Mileage May Vary.

I just checked, and yeah the original version of "One Shot Juanita" does indeed have that needle drop sound.

I got my copy of the original Gold from Jeff Cloud when Velvet Blue Music had yet another sale a few years back. If you email VBM, it's possible he'll still have a copy or two.

I got one on eBay under $4 including shipping, so hopefully it is as described.

I also went ahead and bought copies of the first 2 Bon Voyage albums. I'm kinda afraid all this stuff is going to go OOP (or already has) and it won't be there when I want to check it out.

I get most of my CDs used, and for the Mary part 90s tooth and nail CDs are a-dime-a-dozen used on amazon.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the first two BV albums are already out of print. I bought my copies used. (My copy of their self-titled album is actually a pre-release, with different cover art.)

The Gold booklet is very cool.
Listening through it, of the songs I'm less familiar with, Messed Up Over You is my current favorite. Gene's organ gives the outro a Pink Floyd-ian feel. The only thing that kinda sticks out to me at the moment is when someone whispers "overhead" on DOC.

Is that whispering thing something one of Jason's favorite bands did?
