if Starflyer59 is read to bring back the rock, then I'm ready for a new album.  If not the rock and roll then at least that multilayered sound that worked so beautifully.

Aha too right. I really think SF59 have veered off to far into the direction of indie and need to go back to the roots before its too late. Otherwise they're gonna end up sounding like aaron sprinkles band fair or something :S

you don't like Fair?
their last album was great
I think Aaron is a GENIUS!

and my only suggestion for SF59 is to make an album that doesn't sound like the last 4 albums - something NEW

I'm not against something new but.. I actually really like the last album's direction, just really think all the tracks were cut down too much.. too short.
A more independent/creative approach to song production would solve that. Smiley

I agree... I'd like Jason really to cut loose again; to do a real "sprawling" album like Gold—or even just a handful of extended songs like "Too Much Fun."

Tis true though. Jason always did something different with each album. But unfortunately the last 3 albums have been rather samey Sad and I never said I didn't like fair...they're ok-ish. But my point is that Jason is getting dangerously close to that kind of style and I really don't want him to go wishy washy

What are you talking about? My Island was the absolute fastest-tempo album Jason had ever recorded up to that point, and the stripped-down production was a big departure from the lush sound of TVvSV. Then Dial M kept the fast tempo of My Island but embellished it with acoustic guitars and synthpop. The Changing of the Guard is the only album of the bunch that sounds like the one before it.

The Fashion Focus : Everybody Makes Mistakes :: Dial M : The Changing of the Guard.

Ghosts of the Future, much as I love it, doesn't count as an album. It's a practice run.

I vote for a new album that sounds similar to "Leave Here A Stranger".  I did not like the last album.  I can't get into it.  Be sure to release it on vinyl.

An acoustic EP (10" vinyl) would be great too.

I would like a new Starflyer album with a new direction/sound

a stereo version of Leave Here A Stranger

a stripped down/live acoustic/unplugged CD of hits

a collaboration CD between David Bazan and Jason Martin

or another Brothers Martin CD

I can't stand Neon Horse. The Brothers Martin is so much better.

The idealist in me would like Jason to record a new album with a real band in a real studio with a real producer and a real tour. The realist in me says if he does another album there will be a limited band in his home studio, self-produced along with no shows.

I wonder what would happen if Tooth and Nail folded. I get the feeling that they're not really releasing a lot of albums anymore. I wonder if Jason would release his stuff independently or if Ebel owns the rights to the next 10 Starflyer releases.

Let's see here...from someone who has listened to SF59 since Silver:

1. A NEW ALBUM:  You know, Jason changed his style a lot after Americana with the mere excuse that he wanted to do something different. Everyone defended him and said that it's "artistic freedom" but I'm calling Jason out and saying that his last four albums have been somewhat effortless and in fact sound the same.  The production, instruments, and effects are the same. BORING....hey Jason if you need to borrow my distortion, reverb, and delay pedals for your next album let me know.

2. A NEW JASON MARTIN SOLO ALBUM I think it's safe to say the last few SF59 albums have been Jason doing whatever he wants with who he can get; sounds like solo albums to me already.

3. NEON HORSE  This was a weird project, T$N didnt put anything into it other than a distribution, I have no idea what the objective of this disasterous band was but just stop.

4. Instrumental EP by SF59 This seems pointless but I'd probably buy it then wait for another 2+years for anything else as I female dog used for breeding in disappointment.

5. SIDE PROJECT - maybe if it was something like Enemy Ships with an all star cast and a record company with some balls to put it out.

6. Calling it Quits - I feel like Jason has already thrown in the towel

mm I kinda wish it'd be triggered under Neon Horse. I love how crazy Neon Horse is. I wish Jason would do something crazy.
