Freakin love this song. I remember when I got the 7" it just floored me. But I especially love the "chorus" or whatever
"late walks make my mind overwork so fifteen has never been the cure of a broken back, a broken neck a broken heart, a broken dream"
I wonders what he meant by 15, but I assume he is referring to taking a 15 minute break at work from driving moving trucks and breaking back labor. Just abgreat song I think. One f the stand outs in dial m, that and Majic Man. Great song as well, and why it wasn't on the physical cd irritates me. Lol. So many casual listeners probably missed it completely.

Wasn't that the first title? Before it was just Magic? Who cares. Great song

The original song title was "Majic". No "Man", ever.
Someone pointed out to me once that, at the time "Taxi" was recorded, Sf59 had been around for 15 years, so that could be what the chorus is referring to.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one obsessed with this song! Since this seems like a good place to post it, here's a clip of an 8-bit version I was working on, that I need to finish some day. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2466844/sf59%20-%20dial%20m%20-%20taxi.mp3

Taxi is a damn good song, as is Magic. I've only got one verison of Magic, not sure whether its the demo version or the actual version. Is there much difference?

I don't think there's a demo version of the song floating around. If you think yours is the demo, you can pick up the official version at amazon here for $.99: http://www.amazon.com/Magic/dp/B001IBGJ50

I slightly prefer the Ghosts version to the album cut but they both KILL.
i dunno, i prefer the Dial M version, because it sounds for roomy. the demo version sounded very stark, and sterile. but there's more reverb and environment on the LP, and i like that more, lends more to the overall mood of the song, of him walking around thoughts going through his head, wanting a taxi cause he's probably drowned his sorrows in booze. the reverb accentuates the fact he has thoughts bouncing everywhere. i just like it more. really my only true gripe for dial m was 'Easy'. i LOVED the modulated synth in the bridge of the demo version, but on the LP, he cut it entirely.... i was... irritated. i liked that part. alot. 'Easy' was a good "rocker" on the demo, then he went all... jason martin on it, with that lush strumming breakdown. bah!

wow. if you did the whole diam-m record, i'd pay ya 10 bucks for a copy That, my friend, is the plan! Just when I'm not lazy. I'm really partial to both versions of most tracks... I generally prefer the finalized tracks, but the demos all had something unique. For Taxi, I like the wilder solo the demo had, though the album solo is good too. I really dig both versions of Easy. Since both versions exist and are easily accessible, I don't find it necessary to pick favorites... on the contrary, instead of one good version of the same song, I get to enjoy two completely different versions.

I definitely prefer the Ghosts version. An absolute favorite from the moment I first heard it.

You people....you really look into Jasons lyrics way to much. I recall reading an interveiw with Jason Martin and him going on about fans like you. He mentioned most of his lyric ideas coming off the back of serial boxes or from adverts on tv. The Dungeon was apparently just a nickname for an area in the studios. Now you accusing Jason of drinking to much!? Shame on you....

Now you accusing Jason of drinking to much!? Shame on you.... Oh.... Go to the Justin beiber page! I'm just thinking out loud here. His lyrics WERE nonsensical, but i dial m seemed to have alot of personal material, to me anyway. That's why I really like to pour over the song meanings on that record. Here's another concept. Anyone notice the numbers in dial m? I think it's an overall message. there's "once, maybe twice" from minor keys: 1 and 2. then m23 is blatant: 6 for m, then 2 and 3. then in taxi: 15. Here's what I surmise. The combination to Jason gated community gate thing is 122315, and his house (m for Martin) is the 6th house on the right. Alright, we have it figured out. Who's with me for a trip to riverside?! (eta: fix typos from iphone)
