wow, i suppose it had to happen at some point, but i am rather surprised.  can't see how it works out poorly for jason--records can't really get any LESS promotion from a label than TCOTC got.  hmm, i guess we'll see what happens from here...

Huh.

Yes, very surprising. I wonder what made him decide to leave.

As of yesterday he was still listed as an artist... but they probably haven't updated it yet. What's interesting is that, while je has been off of the artist section for a while, they are not in the former artist section either.

I also noticed Neon Horse and Bon Voyage are listed in the archive section. Say it isn't so! I hope Jason can release new albums of these two prolific side projects himself too.

SF is no longer listed in the online store, however.  This also means that there is no "official" Starflyer store, just sites like Amazon to buy releases.  I knew I shouldn't have put off buying one of those t-shirts all these years.

Jason Martin needs to start his own label. :\

Starflyer 59, Neon Horse, Bon Voyage.
Plus all his friends and new bands he produces for.. would be a nice way to find new decent bands. :]

do you think he knew TCOTG was going to be his last release with T&N and that's why he named it that?

and I agree that if he had a label i'd probably buy anything off it

Woooohooo, I never have to give another cent to T&N!!!
Jason should just sign onto VBM. Maybe then he can convince Cloud to work on a new Pony Express album.

The end of an era...

They no longer gave SF adequate promotion, anyway. I remember when CoTG was going to be released there was literally no promotion. Finally, on the day of its release, Ebel tweeted something about it. Roll Eyes

Looking forward to a self-release!

Yeah, T&N really stopped promoting SF by the time I got into them. But I get the impression it was kind of a nasty feedback loop situation, because Jason didn't seem to care about promotion either.

When I first read the thread I thought Tooth and Nail closed its doors.

We may all be biased, but look at it like this: Name another indie band that has been around as long SF59, put out as many great songs/releases, and yet nobody knows about them.  This is a band/artist who has been busting his butt for almost 2 decades, which is the equivalent of being a grandfather in the indie rock world where the average lifespan is a few years and (if lucky) a couple of pretty good discs.  What is it T&N did for them when “Changing Of The Guard” came out?  If memory serves me right, T&N’s website was out of the CD the day of release, there was no promotion, the 10 Christian bookstores I visited had no idea what I was going on about, and Best Buy & Borders said I would have to special order it when T&N got around to putting in the CD’s catalog info into their distributors’ databases.  I do understand Jason’s allegiance to Brandon Ebel & T&N, but also I can’t help but think where SF59 would be if somewhere down the line they had signed to Secretly Canadian, Sub Pop, Matador, Jade Tree, or a dozen others, or even just gone independent.

Having said that, Jason is a step ahead of a lot of other independents.  He’s got production experience, the capability to record anytime and anything he wants, and tons of friends he can call in for guest spots (not that he has to, I think a solo project would be interesting & economical, and something a lot of us fans would be into).  The only thing he does not have is a strong web presence, and this is something that could be a strong detriment to an independent release.  He has got to get a blog or a site going or get somebody to do it for him.  Now is not the time to play coy with a fanbase that wants to see you succeed.
