I'm sure a thread has already been made about this, but so what.
Basically, how did you find SF59 and what made you start liking it?
I've listened to them ever since I was really young. My dad's band was pretty big in the Christian rock/Tooth and Nail scene in the 90's, so I grew up listening to Starflyer. Later I got a hold of My Island and liked it. I listened to it a ton and I loved it. This was what really got me into the band, and now I have all of his full albums and several EP's.

My older brothers were really into T&N back in the 90's and bought all the video comps that would come out. I saw the "A Housewife Love Song" music video and that's where it all started. I was probably nine or ten at the time.

Yeah, I bet that SF59's my fav band too. I also like Radiohead quite a bit. My dad was the lead singer of Poor Old Lu xD

It was '96 and I was into Smashing Pumpkins. An on again/off again girlfriend at the time thought I should listen to more Christian music. She gave me a comparison chart she found (no idea where it came from) and listed Starflyer 59 as being similar to the Pumpkins. I think it listed some other bands too but I thought the Starflyer name sounded cool. I bought Gold at Berean Christian Bookstores (they still around?) but when I turned it on and listened to "Housewife Love Song" I thought it was too much. I put it the disc away for a while but listened to it occasionally. The turning point was when I had the flu and I remember lying in bed and listening to the B-side of Gold about 15 times in a row. I couldn't get enough of it and haven't looked back since.

Same as since'94 -- I picked up Wish for Eden and Focused in '94 (when I was at Briercrest Bible College), and nearly passed out when I first heard Starflyer. I've been a huge fan ever since. My dad was the lead singer of Poor Old Lu xD Wow! I love poor old lu. Give your dad a high five, please!

I too got that Diamante comparison chart and i bought the "She's the Queen" EP and fell in love - bought every album since
i too LOVE Poor Old Lu and Radiohead
some of my greatest accomplishments in life was to record with Jason Martin and have Jesse Sprinkle (of POL) play on my album (which i am still trying to finish)

My intro to SF was from T&N's Happy Christmas albums. HC3 was the first I heard, but their songs on HC and HC2 were the ones that made me interested in the band.

Somehow I came across a 7 Ball magazine music sampler. It had Hazel Would on it so went out and bought Silver and have been listening ever since.

I had Cheapskates, The Softer Side complilation when I was a little pre-teen. Heard No New Kinda story and fell in love at.....11, I suppose. 11 years later, and I could easliy say they are my favorite band. Even more now than ever. Although there's nostolgia tied to it, it's more than that.

I found Starflyer 59 in '97. I was invited to see my cousin Rob Withem play a concert with his band Fine China in this OLD warehouse in Birmingham Alabama. Fine China played an AMAZING set...lots of fun.
Sometime after the Fine China set, Starflyer 59 took the stage. I distinctly remember Jason's EPIC sideburns and the wall of sound he was making with his guitar..... don't remember a lot of the specifics, but I went home with an Americana CD.
It took a while, but a month or two after the concert, I began playing the CD. Didn't think much of it at first, but after playing it several times, I fell in love..... Fashion Focus came out and I was an official fanboy. I wound up buying the back-catalogue, and because of Starflyer 59, my music world was opened exponentially.
Thanks Rob!

-Saw an ad in a certain magazine for The Fashion Focus. Thought it looked lame and quickly dismissed it. -A year later I came across a copy of TFF at Half-Priced books in clearance. Was looking for new music to try, so I gave it a go. I liked the music, but thought the vocals sucked. Passed the disc on to a friend. -A few months later I saw the video for No New Kinda Story and thought everything about it (especially the music) was AMAZING. -A year later I learned that "the guy from Starflyer 59" was Ronnie Martin's brother (gasp!) and bought a copy of Gold. I liked it, but wasn't smitten (although I did watch the video for "A Housewife Love Song" over and over because I adored how trippy, bizarre and loud it is.) Soon thereafter I received Easy Come, Easy Go for Christmas and I was SOLD. I couldn't get over how excellent Starflyer is. I was instantly a huge fan and started tracking down and buying every album I was lacking. ~The End

I discovered starflyer through my older brother. My first starflyer show was at the same warehouse (crush) in Birmingham that mintshows saw them at. However, I saw them with morella's forest in 96. it was amazing.
