The epic album by The Prayer Chain, Mercury, has finally been released in its original form.

Quote
This is, released for the first time, that initial album in its original order, with the original mixes, just as it was sent off to the label at the end of that summer. The original work of art. The statement we expected to make.

thanks for sharing.  i'm through the first four songs and enjoying it thoroughly.

that does remind me, however, that i searched high and low recently for my copy of mercury and couldn't find it.  i'd love to compare the versions.  would someone mind sending me the files?  definitely bought the album (back in like '98, but still...)

This is interesting stuff.

To be honest, I've heard of The Prayer Chain but never actually heard anything by them before this.

No, these are not the same mixes as on Mercury (dunno about Antartica).

According to the info on the page, it is all different mixes. These are the original versions that were presented to the label, who then told them to go back to the studio and change things:

"This is, released for the first time, that initial album in its original order, with the original mixes, just as it was sent off to the label at the end of that summer. The original work of art. The statement we expected to make. "

"Humb" (the first track) is noticeably different closer to the end. The sitar sounding guitar carries on until the end of the song instead of ending much earlier as it did on the Mercury mix. Some of the other songs sound a bit different as well.

"Sky High" is not present on this release. The reason for this is supposed to be explained on the TPC facebook page, but as of yet they have not answered.

All of the Antartica tracks are likely the same because Antartica was released on a completely different label.

I am SO happy with this version. I totally figured it would never be released. I'm still totally ecstatic that they did.

Am I correct? There were round papers with stuff like aliens on them, right?

Yeah, the whole package was very cool.  The liner notes, as well as cool alien pics, etc., are on the circles.
There was a matching set from The Throes as well, but I never got that one.
