i get sick of seeing all the mediocre reviews on this record. i put it in my top 4 SF albums. its so great. most of the fans just completely overlook this album. why so? its pretty fantastic, and i don't think there's a single filler.

it's almost like their 'fun pop' album

And, maybe it's a wrong impression, it seems some people don't look for this quality in Starflyer 59?

I think it's sort of like a bridge between IATPB and Dial M. Even though Talking Voice and Ghosts of the Past were in there too.

I'm rooting for a Starflyer cover album.

Probably my least favorite, least listened to Starflyer album.  I find nothing about the sound appealing.

Old, Talking Voice vs Singing Voice, and Dial M were all lush enough that even a song that wasn't as well-written could still be ear candy.

I am the Portuguese Blues and My Island were comparatively stripped down, so the songs stood or fell mostly on the strength of the melody and lyrics. My Island had some really great songs ("Lifeguard" is one of my favorite Sf59 tracks from any album), but it also had enough filler that I can't call it an unqualified success like I can for my fave albums.

its just one of those things where everyone will have different tastes and opinions...i personally really enjoyed My Island..i play several songs from it quite often in my rotation..i didnt care much for TCOTG..i listen to I Had A Song For The Ages and Kick The Can often, and a couple others occasionally, but as a whole, i was disappointed with the new album..but with each new release i will always be excited and know there will always be new songs i will enjoy even if i dont care for each album as a whole

I haven't spun the My Island album in forever, read the post and decided to play it today.  You know, Jason is pretty freak'n amazing - I think if this was (fill in the blank with a mainstream band) SF59 would have some popular singles out and on the radio.  There really aren't too band many that sound like this and I think he writes some really good songs.

My favorite era (besides being an old school fan and enjoying silver/gold) was when he had cloud, lenz, and swift in the band too; I thought they were going to take off but never did.  I did however enjoy the drumming of Esquibel and I've always been an Everett fan.

Good stuff.

I got it out a few months ago and I forgot how aggressive it is, especially that opening track.

There is a little bit too much of a 'sameness' arrangement wise with a lot of the tracks.

I had forgotten about that one song that had an unusually long ending for this era of SF59. This is me talking already kinda forgetting it again. There is definitely some good stuff on it though like I can say about any SF59 release.

I have a little bit of a hard time with "My Island" as well. Although, I have fallen back in Love with TVVSV, and cant stop listening to that again.
