I decided to give TV vs. SV a new listen today. I first heard it during a rougher time of life and it didn't strike me as anything I really enjoyed. I've been living a lie though. I actually hated it, but never told anyone. I bought it for buying's sake and because I collect SF59. I even bought the vinyl just to say I owned it, but the music meant nothing to me.

See, something I never tell folks is that I don't listen to lyrics much. I enjoy how music sounds, but rarely pay attention to the lyrics.

Today, I started listening to the lyrics and the music together. I can describe this record with one word.

"Haunted."

It has a whole new meaning for me now and I can listen with greater enthusiasm in the future. I can use it for certain times in my life.

For me, the record deals with death, and that's something I need to deal with too.

This album is amazing.  I don't know if I would call it haunting. At least it isn't for me.

It came out at a rough time for me as well. I had just gotten engaged then the next day laid off from my job.  After a few months of sitting around the house I had enough of being depressed and jobless so I got in my car and drove across New Jersey towards New York City where I landed a job.

I couldn't afford the gas for the 3.5 hour each way commute so I lived in my car in a sleeping bag and took baths in the sinks at the mall.  It was trying time. But seriously, this album was so amazing it kept me going I just listened to it day in and day out. (Although it being only 9 songs always pissed me off.)

Anyway, now I am married and just bought my first house and am still working at that job. A lot of thanks goes to god and prayer but also TV vs SV.
Fuking love this album.

That's interesting. I'd always taken the central theme to be about financial/work related desperation. Knowing that your artistic endeavors haven't taken off so you're stuck in work that you think you should have left behind years ago. It gets bad enough that you wonder, what's the use in living?

And then at the very end, you remember God, and it's not a direct answer but it helps nevertheless.

It's bigger dreams that make them leave
oh my, look at what it's done to me
it feels like a knife...

Haunted is the right word.

For the record, the first time I heard it, I hated it as well. Now its in my top 5 SF59 records.

I've always liked it. It's not exactly my go-to sf59 record, but it is very solid. My biggest complaint is it wasn't longer, and I wanted more of the same style. I think what really made it stick for me was the real live strings for a change instead of keyboards.
