From what I can tell, this song doesn't get too much love, but it's one of my favorites. When I first heard The Fashion Focus and was bummed about the direction they had taken, this was the track that kept me coming back, the kind of blistering guitar track I was hoping for. Now, of course, I love all the tracks on The Fashion Focus, but "Too Much Fun" is my favorite. The last great Staflyer 59 guitar jam?

I love this song on it's own but I always felt that it didn't fit Fashion Focus well.
I kind of always figured it was a left over from Americana, it seems to be much more suited for that album.

Eh, I think it is one of those few times where a really jarring and out-of-place track works pretty well. You get down to the title track and its almost elevator-music quality and wham, there's Too Much Fun. And it keeps going, and going, and going.

And then you finally get Days of Lamech. That song is pretty good on its own but it's even better if you've been listening to the album in its entirety, thanks to Too Much Fun.

In fact, the song is so jarring, there's actually a tiny bit of the beginning of Too Much Fun that ended up at the end of The Fashion Focus. I hate when that happens on pro CDs.

Also, there's something about the lyrics I've always found really appealing. They're kind of ominous even though they're not specific about what's going on.

OK, just now getting to the actual song (lots of pauses there between client calls).

Yep, I agree. The whole album is happy go-lucky (with a little sadness) leading right up through "The Fashion Show" and then BAM, Americana!

Definitely makes me wonder what happened there because it definitely belong in an album with a red cover, not a necktie.

I don't see what y'all mean about "Too Much Fun" not fitting on that album. It was foreshadowed by the ending riffs of "We're the Ordinary" and "The Birthrite".

Couldn't have said it better myself. I also think "Too Much Fun" is a mostly different rock style than Americana; crunchy guitars don't equal the same genre.

Is there no love for "EP Nights"? I do believe the Fell in Love at 22 EP was the same recording session.

Even if it was the same recording session, it wasn't actually on The Fashion Focus.

Just pulled out the Fashion Focus vinyl and listened to the whole thing again.

"Too much fun" does do good things for this album but it also sounds pretty nice if you play it between "all you want are things I need" and "You think you're Radical" on Americana.

Don't get me wrong I would never want to see Fashion Focus or Americana changed in any way shape or form.

Good thread. At first I didn't like it at all. I had really enjoyed the overall vibe of TFF and then that song just threw me off. I don't think it's their best jam song but the way it bleeds into Days of Lamech is classic.

I LOVE EP Nights. I was driving with my 6 year old a few nights ago, listening to Starflyer and he asked me to repeat that song. Gotta love it - passing on the SF59 legacy!

This song totally fits on the album. Its vibe would be out of place on any other. Another virtue of the song is that, aside from Traffic Jams, it's the longest track in the SF59 catalog! Love it!

If there was one song I'd cut from The Fashion Focus, it would definitely be A Holiday Song. Never liked that one, except at Christmas time.

Actually, that would be The Party (12:08), a song in which I actually made a thread about here a few months ago with a similar make-up to this one, because I feel that it's really under-appreciated.
