Anybody who likes Sf59 needs to check out Bon Voyage. In case you don't know yet (shame!), Bon Voyage is pretty much Starflyer 59 but with Jason's wife Julie singing. The songs are all written by Jason and he still plays the guitar, but Julie does all the singing. They also have a bassist who (as far as I know) doesn't play with Sf59.
The self-titled first album sounds, to me, like Americana and The Fashion Focus mashed together--a lot of the happy pop vibe is there, but with that amazingly fuzzy guitar tone. The song "West Coast Friendship" on Sf59's Can't Stop Eating EP was first recorded here as a Bon Voyage song.
The second album, The Right Amount, is a bit more enigmatic. I think it contains elements of both Old and Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice--but this was released before either of those albums! Ronnie M. and Richard Swift provides synths and keyboards to the album. The song "The Telephone" is a song everyone needs to hear, if not the rest of the album. It is a true masterpiece at exactly one half-hour in length.

Look around eBay, half.com or Amazon.

Yeah. I guess one good thing about getting into artists long after the fact is that you can get their albums cheaply....$2.18 and $2.80 for the self-titled and The Right Amount, respectively, at Amazon. Wish listed.

I always thought that Jason's reason for starting Bon Voyage was rather amusing. As Jason put it - to allow him another outlet for "certain songs I had that I would feel dumb singing" http://velvetbluemusic.com/bonvoyage/

Did you guys see this blurb on their Myspace page? Jason Martin(Starflyer 59) and wife Julie Martin put out 2 albums together under the name Bon Voyage. New music coming soon. With most bands, such a phrase means absolutely nothing, but considering that a.) they've only been on Myspace since 6/16/2007 and b.) the prodigious Jason Martin is part of the band...that makes me hopeful for some more BV soon. These are good times.

Courtesy of Allalom from the Velvet Blue Music forum: Bon Voyage: Caribbean Sea (demo). Yeah, I don't own any albums yet, but all the songs I've heard by Bon Voyage are awesome.
