http://www.myspace.com/starflyer59 Hmmm... sounds to me more like The Brothers Martin rather than SF59. I don't like it too much, it's ok. (It is new, right? I've never heard it or seen it anywhere, so I'm assuming it is.)

The MySpace player says it's from Ghosts of the Future. I wonder whether this is a demo song for the next album or a set exclusive. Either way, it's pretty good: I've always liked the darker-sounding Sf59. The solo really sold me on it.  |

Oh, yeah, shucks, I forgot to check the waveform.  It's a good song. I do think it sounds more like the TBM sound or even like Joy Electric proper. But I still like it, and it's well worth a Gopher rip. |

This makes me believe the next LP will be a little bit more Brothers Martin styled. Not that there's anything wrong with that but... I love the basslines in Starflyer 59, and it seems to me My Island brings it out the most.

I have been thinking that Sf59 is due for a stylistic overhaul. Their periods seem to consist of three albums each so far, the most recent one consisting of Old, Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice, and My Island.
To me, the style of "My Island" is quite different from that of "Old" and "Talking Voice. vs. Singing Voice". I felt that Starflyer was headed into a great direction until they made "My Island". Though there are two songs from "My Island" that sound like they could have been from the "Talking Voice" period. Those being 'Division' and 'Pearl of Great Price'. Overall, I've been rather disappointed by "My Island". It is a decent and accessible album, but I feel that Starflyer is capable of so much more than just that. |

That's exactly how I feel about 'My Island'. After "Talking Voice. vs. Singing Voice" I was so excited and couldn't wait to hear the new album. Though it's a good album I was a disappointed. |
