There's a flood across the street from my house right now. My wife shot some video of it. We're glad we live on the high side of the river.

Nice... that's pretty deep! Shocked

There was a Tornado here in Oregon a few days ago, caused by an earthquake in the ocean. Weird and very rare.

Wow, that's a crazy video, Adam. Glad you guys are OK.

A tornado? Strange. Did it cause any damage?

Tornado was pretty weak, no one was even hurt. But it did do some damage, blew off some roofs tiles, flipped over trailers, blew over some trees and power lines, blew some windows, you know - the usual.
Earthquake was a magnitude 6.4 recorded 150 miles off the Oregon coast on wednesday.

Pretty odd, we're too north-western to get tornadoes, but you're safe nowhere I guess.

Either way, a flood is worst than a weak Tornado. Imagine what those stores look like on the inside.. Or better yet, how long those buildings will last with such water damage.

The longer I live where I live, the more grateful I am that we rarely have to deal with freak weather. Of course I wish we could move somewhere else...

Where would you move to?

In the U.S.? Somewhere that gets more snow than we do (once every decade or so), but not too much. Somewhere where there's less pollution and traffic. I don't have anywhere in mind yet.

Second choice? Japan. I don't think the Mrs. would be happy about that. At first. Smiley

What's this business of moving to Japan? Why are you learning Japanese?

Not sure of the tone, but it sounds like you're saying 'what the hell are you thinking?' Sad

The answer: I've been fascinated with Japanese culture and language ever since I knew there was a Japan. I've been tossing around the idea of learning Japanese for nigh unto 15 years now, and if I don't do something about it now, it's going to bug me for the rest of my life.

As for moving to Japan, I don't know that yet. But I wouldn't rule it out.

Hmm.. Stephen, we share the same dream. Smiley

Oh? Is that where all the ninja stuff comes from? Grin That's awesome! Tell me more.

My wife and I are planning to, if everything works out right and we can get some mucho grande debt paid off this year, to go on a mission trip to Japan in 2009. Asian Access does short- and long-term mission trips there, and that would be a-w-e-s-o-m-e for us. Heck, we might just take the kids and never come back. Ya never know. Smiley

Ninjas are just a bonus. Wink Tongue

But yes. After finding out more about Japan and playing video games based in Japan... lol
It's just awesome. Grin

I don't know how much of a reality it is for me but it would be cool to.. You're lucky! Be sure to let me know how it goes!

We definitely want to go someday. I'll still keep 2009 in mind, so I can be positive. When the bills just keep giving you the beatdown, it's important to strive to stay positive. Smiley

Tennessee gets some snow, but not as much as the north east does. It also rains a lot in the winter. I lived in Nashville for 2 years. Of course it's heavily populated, but the suberbs are nice and are like rual country. Even if you don't go to Nashville, I'd check Tennessee anyway. I really liked it there.

I was checking into Nashville and Charlotte. A couple of sites I checked said that the cost of living is higher there than Atlanta, but that's probably calculated life in the city, which is always more expensive. Smiley

The sales tax is super high. Like 9%, but land is dirt cheap. My family almost moved up there themselves! Florida's is like 7% sales tax. If you live in the city like I did it'll probably be more expensive, but maybe not so out in the suberbs.
