I think a lot of people misunderstand Biblical marriage. It isn't about "my wife will let me do this" or "My husband will let me do that". It's more of a partnership. If I were married, listening to SF59 in the car isn't a big deal to me. Or any kind-of music, really. It's just music and most car trips aren't hours long. If that were the case, I'd see if we can compromise or something. If you read Ephesians 5:21-33 it gives you a picture of what God intended marriage to be. From my understanding it isn't about a rule book or being a doormat, it's about serving and loving one another.

Thank you. It is disturbing to me to see people talking of "letting" the spouse do this or that. It paints such a negative picture of marriage. Marriage is supposed to be about solidarity, in my opinion.

Most guys I know have to check with their wives before they do something. Whereas generally speaking I don't think most wives check with their husbands, at least not in my family.

I like being single because it's less stressful. I don't have to worry about taking care of other people and I get plenty of free time. It's pretty great if you think about it.

I'm always amused when someone says it is a "requirement" that their spouse like a certain band or genre of music.  Hey, you have to set your own priorities.  My husband is not really a music-lover.  He has a large collection of 80's music, but rarely buys anything new.  I love all kinds of music and though my music-buying has slacked off since my single days, I still revel in it.  It just doesn't get any better than Starflyer, but I've never been able to convert my husband, despite many captive playings in the car of SF albums.  Sometimes I wonder if I am missing out on something huge in that we don't share a deep 'musical bond,' but I've made my peace with it and his many good qualities and pure heart more than make up for it.

I guess part of sharing life together is sharing similar interests, but I don't think it's wise to say my spouse has to like this band. It's like you wouldn't disown one of your relatives because they don't like emo, so why would you choose a spouse only based on music? At the same time I wouldn't want someone who belittles my musical taste or criticizes me about singing off key.

It just doesn't get any better than dc Talk

Wow. You sure about that, Melanie?  Cheesy

(this isn't going to make much sense once it's the S F 5 9 forum again)

I think the mix-up has produced some great results...talking about how 'dc Talk has gone downhill since 'Robot Rock'' in another thread, for example. Grin

You should have just set up a MySpace account as Jason Martin and then said the band was breaking up.

my wife can't stand starflyer. when we're in teh car and i put on starflyer, she usually gets her ipod out. actually she usually gets her ipod out anytime i listen to music in the car. so much for that. heh. she kinda fits in with the "love you like teh little bird" thing. cause her favorite music is like My Chemical Roamance, fall out boy, green day, japanses pop, weird al, or anything else a person of her age should have outgrown years ago, lol. and she says starflyer is too slow and boring.

funny thing is... even though those differences stand, we have still in our 5 years of knowing each other have never ever had one real serious fight. so whatever.

like the other guy who said it, if we did have a kid. i guarantee it'd be a SF59 fan. heh.
