I am really starting to dig this band. I have "Whoorlpool" on Cassette, Antartica and Mercury on CD. I want to get Shawl because I like the verson of "Crawl" on Antartica. Does "Shawl" really sound like a complete rip of Peral Jam?

I want to get their live album, too.

The Prayer Chain is indeed amazing. Like I've said before Mercury is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Shawl really doesn't sound like Pearl Jam at all, well at least to me. I'd say it's more like a less artsy Mercury. Haven't heard the whole album in awhile though. Lost it before mp3s became popular. Should probably get a new copy of it. Wink

That's good. A lot of people said it sounded "grungy" and like Peral Jam.

The CBGB's Live album is very good.  Buy "So Close and Yet So Far" if you ever see it.  It is an excellent collection.  You might still be able to get it at random places on the Internet.  Shawl is worth a cheap eBay price.

Pearl Jam was more of a product of the Seattle scene. The Prayer Chain was grunge, but it wasn't because they wanted to be Pearl Jam. The Prayer Chain's first album came out in 91 and the same with Pearl Jam. But there are a lot of bands that owe a lot to the Jam like Creed, Lifehouse and others who continue to sing like Eddie Vedder.

"Mercury" is my favorite album of all time. It is spectacular, amazing, unbelievable, perfect.

"Shawl" has some great songs as well. Especially "Fifty-Eight". That one is beautiful.

It is sad that "Mercury" was not allowed to be as it was originally meant to be. Certain songs were taken out and later released on "Mercurios" and "Antarctica". The outtakes from "Mercury" are wonderful and wish it would have been allowed to stay on the album to form the whole that it was intended to be.

Ah well, I love The Prayer Chain.  Smiley

They're out of print and very expensive. We should share.

Mercury was a great album, but wasn't it like almost 50 minutes long? Prior to the breakup of the band the guys just couldn't get along and that's why the band doesn't exist anymore.

BTW, I have MP3s of The Best of The Prayer Chain radio show I did in college. If anyone is interested I will sendspace it.

I do not see what this has to do with my post. Perhaps you quoted the wrong person.  Tongue

You mentioned the Mercury album in your first post.

Yeah, I guess that was the point. The thing added about their demise is mostly what had me confused. Where's my decoder ring?  Grin
