I'm kind of excited because gallery is going to be free and the listing prices are going down significantly. If you've ever listed on the site you know that you can rack up a large amount of money on fees without selling a thing.

Did I say significantly? I was mistaken. But free gallery is free gallery is it not?

Well, anything they can do. I haven't sold anything on eBay in ages because the last time I did, their selling fees ate us alive, and the stuff I have (diecast collectibles) wouldn't earn enough money to be worth it. Or maybe that's my excuse for being lazy, but still, they're too expensive. Grin

I've sold a lot of stuff on eBay over the past 3 years. We're talking 300+ items. I think one month I actually paid eBay $100 in fees. I did sell a ton of stuff though. I list most stuff in the $1-9.99 range and I never use gallery for items in that price range. That saves a lot of money, but I wonder if that affects sales.

The thing I don't like is that you can list 10 items and none of them can sell and you then owe eBay $4-$5. Overall, the problem I see is that eBay and PayPal are double-teaming you and neither of them provide solid customer support.

That's a good post, and you're right. I'm hesitant to send them any more of my money, because I don't know if my stuff will sell. I wish I could just set up a storefront somewhere that's not going to charge me an arm and a leg. I have a bunch of diecast cars that would probably go for $4-5 each, and listing those individually would kill me on fees. Plus you can only list stuff for a maximum of 10 days, whereas diecast cars are an unpredictable thing. Sometimes people want them, sometimes they don't, so I might need to leave them there for a year until they sell. If I could just set up a simple storefront to sell those off, I'd be happy.

How many diecast cars are we talking? I find some things are difficult to sell individually, so I try to package them in lots: such as T-shirts or pants. I do some selling on Amazon.com. The commission fees on there are worse than eBay, but it's free to list.

I have them organized in boxes by driver, and took the pictures a long time ago. I just need to do something with them. Laziness!

I don't know if it would get you the most money, but have you considered selling them as a lot?

Maybe try other outlets for selling them as well. Maybe try to find collectors, antique shops, craigs list...etc...there is more than Ebay...

If you have something expensive that is more common you can also sell it on Amazon. They take a lot of commission, but there are no listing fees and it doesn't require you to take any photos, there's no PayPal to deal with and you can list something in under a minute.

I might try Cragslist or Amazon, and I'm thinking about just selling them as a lot so I can just get rid of them. They're taking up too much space, and while I'd like to think I could put some of them in a display case when we get our own house and I have an office, that might not happen for a while. In the meantime, I'd like the space.
