Now that disc 9's up, I tried transcribing "Taxi". I feel pretty good about the verses, but the first two lines of the chorus sound like gibberish:
Quote
Late walked when my mind overlooked so
15 has never been the cure of
A broken back
A broken neck
A broken heart
A broken dream

The heck?

I believe he is saying 'walks' not 'walked'.

"15 has never been the cure of" still don't make no sense.

Anyway:
Quote from: God Forbid
If I oblige
Be art thou I find
What makes a man is inside
Inside inside
A crooked tongue
makes for crooked speech
God forgive what I thought
Forgive that I'd think

I was the fairest of them all
I was the biggest of the small
I was the sharpest in the shed
I was the brightest of the heads

To live is Christ
To die is gain
I try and I try
I try and I try
A crooked tongue
makes for crooked speech
God forgive that I thought
Forgive what I think

It's time it's time
I've made up my mind
But I've changed my mind
But I've made up my mind.

Quote from: Altercation
It was a genuine gesture
Because I'm not your master
I've got to live with these thoughts
Because you reap what you sow
A home for my own
A life support
And I'm going other places
'Cause I'm looking for some aces

It's just another altercation
(Whoa-oh)
And I'm losing control

My puzzle's missing pieces
I'm missing key parts
So I hit the reservation
I need a second thought
It's a home for my own
It's my life support
'Cause I'm going other places
And I'm looking for some aces

It's just another altercation
(Whoa-oh)
And I'm losing control
It's just another altercation
(It's just another altercation)
And I'm losing control

Corrections?

Um... okay, so in "Can You Play Drums," is it really "Just kick in a rock," or more like "kickin' a rock"?  The second seems to make more sense to me, the way you might kick a pebble down the sidewalk when feeling lazy or board.

There could (and maybe has been) a thread dedicated to Starflyer lyrics you liked better before you found out what they actually were.  My top one has to be "the contest completed."  I thought it was:
I needed to be here, the contest completed.  Needed to come too, I've beaten the war."  I liked the idea that instead of just joining in some kind of disagreement, he somehow managed instead to beat the whole war.  Then I learned he actually beat no one.  I still like the non-existent line, "I've beaten the war."

Jason can make anything sound good.

"Beaten the war" would be pretty cool. But how would it fit with "Give Up The War" from LHAS?  Grin

Aside from that, I think "Beaten no one" fits better with the theme of the album, about how difficult it is to make it in the world. And just when it seems like he's giving up, suddenly its "I've got one destination, for Jesus to call me home". Amazing.

Regarding Ghosts, there was some interesting self-reference in the lyrics and titles and such. To wit:
* Minor Keys: "Like Johnny Marr I want my Please Please Please". Side F is Johnny Marr's "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want".
*Side B was a cover of a song called "Compulsion". Side L was a cover of a song by the band Compulsion.
*Taxi: "A broken back, A broken neck, A broken heart, A broken dream." Side P is titled Broken Arm.
*Guitar Man: "the voice begins to falter, and the crowd is getting thin". Taxi: "Sometimes I tell myself, I should have walked When they all started leaving".
*Mr. Martin: "Because I'm better than everyone else". Mall Monarchy: "You were the brightest of them all". God Forbid: "God forgive what I thought, Forgive that I'd think, I was the fairest of them all, I was the biggest of the small, I was the sharpest in the shed, I was the brightest of the heads".

Morrissey & Marr

*Guitar Man: "the voice begins to falter, and the crowd is getting thin". Taxi: "Sometimes I tell myself, I should have walked When they all started leaving".

I don't know if you're being technical or what, but I believe with "Taxi" he is referencing people leaving the band, not his shows.

How old is Starflyer? 15 years. I think the meaning pretty much speaks for itself.

I've been listening to Lies like crazy, and the chorus in "The Good Life" kind of sounds like this to me:

Quote
We'll try our hand at fame
Make ours the lasting name
Our kids won't have to try
For that good life, good life, good life

Also, one of the choruses sounds like "Our kids will have their try..." at some point.

What do you think?

EDIT: I haven't listened to this carefully 'cause I didn't think I needed to, but, in "Best Friend," I could've sworn it was "three is always a crowd," like the saying. "Crime" does rhyme, though... also, I heard "two's far good company," but I'm not steadfast on that one either.
