"Beaten the war" would be pretty cool. But how would it fit with "Give Up The War" from LHAS?

Aside from that, I think "Beaten no one" fits better with the theme of the album, about how difficult it is to make it in the world. And just when it seems like he's giving up, suddenly its "I've got one destination, for Jesus to call me home". Amazing.
Regarding
Ghosts, there was some interesting self-reference in the lyrics and titles and such. To wit:
* Minor Keys: "Like Johnny Marr I want my Please Please Please". Side F is Johnny Marr's "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want".
*Side B was a cover of a song called "Compulsion". Side L was a cover of a song by the band Compulsion.
*Taxi: "A broken back, A broken neck, A broken heart, A broken dream." Side P is titled Broken Arm.
*Guitar Man: "the voice begins to falter, and the crowd is getting thin". Taxi: "Sometimes I tell myself, I should have walked When they all started leaving".
*Mr. Martin: "Because I'm better than everyone else". Mall Monarchy: "You were the brightest of them all". God Forbid: "God forgive what I thought, Forgive that I'd think, I was the fairest of them all, I was the biggest of the small, I was the sharpest in the shed, I was the brightest of the heads".
