I'm curious to know what marketing method was successful enough to get you to first listen to SF59. Please vote in the poll.

I first heard Sf59 through their songs on the Happy Christmas compilations. That was enough to get me interested.

First song I heard was Next Time Around on T&N's Art Core - Vol. 2. Still one of my favorite songs. The cover by Nigel Evan Dennis is also genius.

Forgot to tell you all how I voted.
I heard about SF59 back when they first came out. I went to my good friend Keith Hoerig (yes, the Keith Hoerig from Five Iron Frenzy) and asked him what the latest best music was. He told me SF59 was the best. So, I went to the Zondervan Family Bookstore and bought Silver on cassette tape.
My life was different after that.
And no, I don't know Keith anymore. I haven't seen him or talked to him in about 10 years.

it was holiday break b/t semesters my sophomore year in college when i first saw "silver" on the shelves at the xian bookstore in the mall. picked it up because the artwork intrigued me...plus the fact that it was on T&N, & i was hoping that i would dig it as much as i had been digging wish for eden's first record...definitely a quality purchase...i have probably listened to that record more than any other in the 90's.

I discovered Starflyer 59 through the multi-label (but primarily T&N) compilation X 2003. "Loved Ones" is the very last song on the second disc (of two), and it is even a "bonus track" which isn't listed on the outer track listing. In other words... I was just barely exposed to the band's music. But the minute I heard that song, it stuck out to me. I repeatedly listened to it till I bought the Old album, which was May 2004, nearly exactly a year after its release. That is how the whole thing started.

I found this little booklet thing (this is actually sort of funny now that I think about it) that listed like "secular bands" in one column and then in a different one listed "Christian" alternatives to listen to. I saw the name Starflyer 59 and the description said "Space Rock" and I was like maybe 15 or 16 at the time and I thought the term "Space Rock" sounded like something I'd dig. I bought a T&N Comp called "Cheapskates: Softer Side" because I was looking for some bad punk music to use for something (I don't remember why). There wasn't really anything usable for my lousy punk thing, but it did have "No New Kinda Story" on it and I thought it was one of the coolest songs ever. I checked out some of their other stuff. Bought "Fashion Focus"...the rest is history.

Hahaha. I remember those.. good memories. One to a Christian alternative chart (Other), zero to Tooth & Nail ad.

It must've been college radio or some Saturday night youth rock show on a Christian radio station. Wow, after we're done with this poll, we should send it to Tooth and Nail to let them know the results.
