Should we have separate pages for different versions of the songs, like one page for "Pearl Of Great Price" and another for "Pearl Of Great Price Remix"? I'd prefer if we just had one page that notes all the different versions of the song.

Like you said, just one page that notes the different versions of the song.

Good question. I'm 50/50. Just figured it would be simpler to have a page for each one. Maybe not.

Well, if we have one page for all the different versions of a song, that would open up the option to have a comparison section between the versions. Of course that does complicate things a little, like The Sheriff vs. Major Awards, but we could name that page 'Major Awards' and put a note on the page about 'The Sheriff'. We'll figure it out.

Thanks so much for all you guys are doing on this. You are doing a kick-A job.

I just updated the SF59 biography page so the album links work.

I agree with that, re: "Major Awards" and "The Sheriff". Also, "Leigh and Me" should have a note about "Starflyer 2000 Reprise".

On the same lines, should the reissues of Silver and Gold be lumped with the original releases?

I'd say so; we should have one 'master page' for each album that also mentions different versions or included bonus discs/7"s.

"I am the Portuguese Blues is Starflyer 59's universally maligned eighth full-length studio album."  Wink

"Most people with bad taste prefer to say that IATPB sucks. The administrators and moderators of the forum believe that such people are smoking crack."

"I Am the Portuguese Blues" is a different kind of album. Starflyer is an evolutionary band. The sound evolves from album to album. It's like chapters in a book. And IATPB is like a different band altogether. It's punchy and in your face. Whereas most Starflyer songs are kind of more reflective. It's the difference between a Brit pop band and a bar rock band. It's still Jason, but it doesn't sound much like any of the other albums. It's fine if he likes to put out something like that every once in a while, but if every album begins to sound like that... well, I just might have to start listening to Joy Electric again.

I'm rooting for a Starflyer cover album.

^ Had to look back to the front page to see who wrote the 'smoking crack' line...turns out it was me! That was a while ago!

You guys are doing a great job on the wiki. I've just looked through it and was amazed at all the nicely organized, detailed information. Awesome.

Hey looky I found a transcription of J. Edward Keyes' "The Story of Starflyer 59" essay from Easy Come Easy Go.

I'd like to paste the complete text in as an article in the wiki. Would this lead to copyright problems?

EDIT: I just emailed Mr. Keyes to see if he's okay with us copying it.

Has anyone considered adding a page listing known live bootlegs?  (Not necessarily links to them)

Keyes said yes! Booyeah!

Joyflyer, I think the wiki could list the known bootlegs without endorsing them. At least we could just add them to the discography page.

Major spam problem on the wiki - especially the front page.  I keep deleting it, but it comes back.  Some stupid spammer with a vengeance.

OK. I blocked some of the accounts, but it appears that Mediawiki doesn't have any controls over creating new user accounts! I'll check into migrating it to something with better security.

If I blocked anyone legitimate, I'm sorry; I didn't recognize some of the user names.

Anyone else better with wiki software than I am?

I think you are going to have to block the IP address "85.12.24.17" - that is the main one doing the spamming (and still doing it today).  I think you can also protect the front page to only be edited by registered accounts - that would at least slow down some spammers, like this one.

Good call. I'm not sure why we didn't have it protected in the first place. Also, I just now unblocked a user who appears legit--he made one legit edit, fixing "Trey Meny" to "Trey Many," and the username is "Sf5987" which also looks rather legitimate, if you ask me. Smiley
