myspaceBio w/ mp3'sThe solo project of David Eugene Edwards (previously the foreman of the late great apocalyptic country-rock outfit, Sixteen Horsepower). He doesn't stay within any one genre, but mixes rock and weird folk music and drones and even Medieval music (on Mosaic, at least). It's also big-time downer music, on par with Starflyer (which is really funny considering that he's on the record label run by the Danielson Famile). There's a new album coming out this month. Sounds interesting from what I've heard so far. The real reason I posted this is because holy carp they're playing in Atlanta on Oct 11.

Wovenhand discography: WovenhandBlush MusicConsider the BirdsMosaicTen StonesIt bears mentioning that Blush Music is a soundtrack D.E.E. made for the Ultima Vez dance company's show, Blush (and 6 of the 10 tracks are rearrangements--albeit extensive rearrangements--of songs from Wovenhand). He also did soundtracks for Puur and Sonic Boom, but I don't know if either of those are available in the US. Wikipedia has 16 Horsepower's discography.

it seems that d.e. edwards has let a spirited rock & roll sound loose more & more with each record. while the first releases were decidedly hushed, the new material howls at the moon! the two words that come to mind with each spin of the new record are "driving" & "darkness". if you can handle those things, it's a great record, in my opinion...i can only imagine that his live set is neil young on uppers.

Hey dudes, I ordered Ten Stones on vinyl and it's finally arrived.
I was wondering if someone who has the CD version would be kind enough to hook me up with mp3 versions of the songs, so I can also listen to the album on my iPod.
I'll have pictures to prove that I own the vinyl this time tomorrow.

Triple post!
Wovenhand is playing at the Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta tonight. I will be there.
If by chance someone else from this board will be there, I'd like to say hi.

That show was amazing.
Wovenhand definitely, beyond all doubt, plays rock music. They had that Wall of Sound going with just three musicians (D.E.E. on guitar or mandolin, Pascal Humbert on electric bass, and Ordy Garrison on drums). On the songs I recognized, it was definitely interesting hearing them stripped down to three instruments then cranked up to eleven. And the songs that were new to me affected me on a subconscious level; I'm still feeling a little bit of the buzz from the show.
The crowd was completely silent while the band was playing. This surprised me; I expected there would be some clapping or singing along with some of the catchier songs.
When checking the mic levels, instead of saying "Check check" or something similar, David recited his speaking-in-tongues talk from "Slota Prow". On "Kicking Bird", Ordy was hitting the drum set with a maraca instead of a stick. David played while sitting on a stool, and he kept lifting his leg and shaking his foot at random points; then he stood up in the middle of one song near the middle of the set. On another song, both David and Pascal were using bottleneck slides--in particular, Pascal was rubbing the slide back and forth against the strings to make the bass drone and howl. After "Winter Shaker", the band left the stage, then they came back and played an encore: "Deerskin Doll" and a ten-minute long jam version of "Your Russia".
I scored a free poster, and got autographs from all three of the guys in the band.
Did I mention that the show was amazing?
