I like a lot of it. they saved "I love you like the little bird" by changing the music, now it's great. "Minor Keys" is a good opener. "Who said it's easy?" has my favorite part, when it reaches the bridge and slows down dramatically after that for the rest of the song...that part is too great. "Mr Martin" made me laugh, I thought the mix of birdchirps and sad guitars was amusing and touching at the same time, I think it's a standout song personally.
Some other tracks don't impress me much. "M83", "Taxi, "Automatic", "Altercatiion", really almost the whole midsection of the album feels like it lacks anything really memorable. I kind of dislike "the brightest of the head", I don't know why they chose it to be the album's representative single...it doesn't have any great hooks, it almost pedestrian sounding..."Concentrate" is pretty cool, a good stomping synthrocker but I dislike it at track 3. I think it should have been later. dunno where, but...later.
I don't know about the lyrics, or the production...everything sounds a little too filled in to my ears. I hear a sound I like in a song but then it gets washed away by other less interesting parts that are mixed sooooo loud.
just all initial impressions after a couple listens...still reserving judgement...

STARFLYER'S BEST ALBUM EVER.
There, I said it.
You really believe that? You really don't?

I think "Concentrate" and "The Brightest of the Head" may have sounded better switched around. I'm going to listen to the album that way sometime.

I check the relevant site pretty regularly to read their news slices, and one of their news slices was that the album was streaming, so I thought I'd share it with everyone. I just happened across it. I myself am still not listening, just as I didn't listen to the a-sides of the ghosts box, I don't want to hear it until the disc is in my hands, that way I won't think, "I liked the ghosts version better."

I've listened to it three or four times streaming, and some of the Ghosts versions are better. Having it in CD form will only confirm that. I wish we could have the original (presumably-)digital recordings of the Ghosts material.

Guys, we should write to T&N. Tell them we don't like the loud mastering that's been happening on these last few albums.

...but I guess pretty much EVERY band that releases albums does that these days.
i'm in a band, and we just recorded most of our new album on 24 track 2" tape.

My main complaint is that "Guitar Man" and "Magic" are not on the new album.

"Majic" is supposed to be the bonus track on the vinyl version.

I know but it's not right to have a b-side that's better than what's on the album.

The release was called "Ghost s of the Future". This could mean that some of those tracks will still appear in the future. I'm hoping for a "Guitar Man EP". In fact, I'll message SF59 about it.
