What's your best Starflyer 59 memory - from a particular song or concert or interaction with Jason?
Back in 2001 when I was living in California my (then girlfriend, now wife) went to go see Starflyer and Pedro the Lion at a club in San Francisco, The Bottom of the Hill. We got there a little too late and they closed the doors when we were fifth or sixth in line. We had driven from San Jose (about an hours drive) and I was totally bummed of course to not see them play. Plus it was raining lightly. We were giving up on getting in after waiting a few minutes but saw Jason and Jeff Cloud across the street hanging out. Feeling bold I went up to them to ask what was on their play list since we couldn't get in and were going to take off. Naturally their answer was kind of nonchalant with maybe a song title or two and then just saying "some old stuff and some newer stuff." Quintessential Jason Martin answer. I explained we couldn't get in because they had closed the doors. Then Jeff Cloud said one of the coolest things I've ever heard. He said that he would see if he could get us on their guest list. I was floored. The bassist and tour manager of my all-time favorite band were totally going to bat for some 21-year old he didn't know from Adam. We got back in line and then in a few minutes Jeff came to tell us it was all cool. We gave our name to the guy at the door and got in. Both Pedro and SF59 were awesome that night. Hands down my best memory.

I was at the same "Bottom of the Hill" show in 01. My brother lives in Cali but I'm in Canada and was also quite bummed that we weren't getting in, considering that this would probably be my only chance to see them. After waiting a few minutes we were let in though but maybe we have you to thank!

That is a great picture, Starflyer 69! Here's one of me and Ronnie and Jason at Purple Door '98. I've posted it on the Joy Electric forum before, but I don't think I've shared it here. I was trying not to explode with joy!!

Jason looks like he's scared of the camera.

That is a great picture, Starflyer 69!
I took three pictures. I conveniently cropped myself out of the above picture. I was having a hard time because I am significantly taller than Jason and I was trying to hold the camera and stoop at the same time. As I look at your picture of Ronnie I can't help but think he's got a little Travis Barker in him. Also does it look like Jason had an earring in that picture?

When I was living in CT, the wife and I took a train to Manhattan and saw SF59 play. I think it was 2006. My Island had just come out and they played several songs from it. It was a great show and I will always remember it.

Could this be the inspiration for "My Grandfather the Cubist"?

At the Bottom of the Hill show I do remember they let a few other people in but we were way to far back in line. Another fond memory was when I saw them play for the first time in Fresno. It was after TFF came out and they had pictures for sale. Joey Esquibel was drumming for them and I was trying to get everyone's autograph. I got Jason's and Jeff's and thought the guy drumming didn't look like Wayne but I called him Wayne anyway. Joey explained it wasn't him in the picture but I had him autograph it anyway. I'll have to find it - he signed it and has an arrow pointing to Wayne Everett in the picture with the words "not me." If I can find it in our crawl space I'll post it.

Wow, judging from the pic from '98 to the more recent one. . .Jason has really aged! A little too much for 10 years, I think. Could it be the smoking? : /

I think being married and having kids will make you age more than smoking.
