I do not endorse this.

On a completely unrelated note, I understand why people compare early Starflyer to My Bloody Valentine, but I don't think they sound that much alike either.

what do you not endorse?  the remasters or the uploading of them?

btw sf59 sounds way more like the jesus and mary chain than MBV.  i don't know where the MBV comparison even comes from... possibly Isn't Anything?  anyhow Loveless comparisons are more accurate for like, some of lassie foundation's stuff...

It's just a transparent attempt to cover my butt.

As for the remasters, I've never heard the originals so I can't compare them. But they don't make my ears bleed, and that's always a good thing.

Sounds like someone who's never seen them in concert. They were handing out ear plugs at the door.

Good for them. I usually have to bring my own earplugs.

I've thought this for a long time. Psychocandy/Darklands/Automatic even seem to sonically parallel our beloved SF59.

i found say the comparison comes into play with the "shoegazer" genre - quited vocals mixed with layers of guitars.  i think its a fair comparison but i couldnt say they sound identical by any means.

that being said, i saw mbv this year in dallas. i brought my own ear plugs (as they were handed out at the door) and i looked at people during the 20 minute outro that climbed up to about 135 decibles from what i heard. grown men looked as if they were going to cry.

Because ever music columnist or reviewer who ever existed feels like name dropping MBV somehow gives them credibility, so every time an indie band pops up who uses a significant amount of distortion, they have to throw in how they "hearken back to My Bloody Valentine" when they sound NOTHING like them.

I'm not a huge fan of them or anything but of all the damn times some stupid writer has said that, the band has NEVER sounded like MBV.

So because at one point in time SF59 played music with loud distorted guitars, they are somehow like my bloody valentine. Go figure.

(can you tell this is a pet peeve for me?)

J. Edward Keyes said the same thing in the Easy Come Easy Go bio.

Loveless is amazing...and overrated.

Funny how that can happen. I think I agree. People seem to think of it like a Beethoven's Fifth of rock music... or something. I'm more impressed by thinking of what it took to achieve the sounds it has than with the sounds themselves.

Actually, I recently spotted this in 'used' condition at my FYE and I got it. I like the sound a lot. I definitely do not find it terribly similar to the silver album. The leads and chords on the silver album are distinct and defined whereas Loveless's are more hazy and indistinct. Mostly. Actually, Loveless initially reminded me of certain moments on Velour 100's Of Color Bright.
