My dad had the True Believer album and I used to love listening to that. Other than that one, I have not heard any other Phil Keaggy. But that does remind me of another Christian band that my dad used to listen to: Harvest. I have never heard of them since but they had passionate lyrics and vocals and great melodies from what I can remember.

theoneando:  Harvest was my very favorite band when I was quite young, my dad and I listened to that constantly and saw them in concert a number of times, post Ed Kerr.  No one I know seems to remember Harvest, so that's pretty cool.

BTW a great PK album I would recommend is "Crimson and Blue".  Hard to find nowadays but if you find it you will be rewarded by some fantastic music.

Phil Keaggy is definitely one of my all-time favorites. His old band Glass Harp was awesome as well.

Jimi Hendrix said that Phil Keaggy was the greatest guitar player in the world. True Story.

Not quite, Cereal, or does "True Story" = knowing wink.  Check out this history behind Hendrix's quote at http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/keaggy.asp.  It's a great story, though.  Guess that's why it's still getting passed around.

Yeah I've heard it said that Eric Clapton mentions Keaggy as the world's greatest guitarist.  Who knows?

Or Paul McCartney or Eddie Van Halen.  All bunk.  For almost 40 years.

From True Tunes News Vol. 5, Issue 7, Page 43...

True Tunes: There has been a story floating around forever. It has to do with Hendrix and/or Clapton saying that you're the best guitarist in the world.

Phil Keaggy: Well, to me it seems like an unverified rumor. Maybe someone said something and it went down the line and turned into something outlandish. After 22 years of hearing this thing you would think by now that someone would say "Hey listen to this tape or this video that proves it." Nobody has ever produced anything that gives it authenticity. I couldn't imagine that Hendrix or Clapton would have known me.

Or from Pop Dose (http://popdose.com/hooks-n-you-phil-keaggy-phil-keaggy-and-sundays-child/)...

Pop Dose: I think my favorite part about the rumor is that it gets updated.  Like, “Oh, you know, I actually heard that it was Eddie Van Halen who said that Phil Keaggy was the best guitarist he’d ever heard.”

Phil Keaggy: Well, you know, Eddie is not as big as Hendrix.  He’s a guitar icon, but his face has not been on Guitar Player Magazine as often as Jimi Hendrix.  I think people are starting to get used to the idea that it was impossible that Jimi Hendrix could ever have heard me...We...recorded our first album at Electric Lady Studios two weeks after his unfortunate death, so I just can’t imagine how he could’ve heard me. I think it’s just a rumor that someone’s kept alive, and it must be titillating enough to keep an interest there...So I don’t think it was said…and that’s it for that!

I'm a very, very long-time fan; I grew up with Keaggy really and he's probably the first good Christian artist I listened to. I would agree with the "fluff" comment but even his fluff is very... skilled, and pleasant. I haven't really kept up with the endless instrumental and collaboration albums he's been putting out the last decade, but, I'm kinda glad he's still doing his thing, y'know? Crimson and Blue is definitely an album to get, as well as Phil Keaggy and Sunday's Child. As for instrumental albums, his first, The Master & the Musician, is stellar. I was privileged enough to see the 30th anniversary tour of that album just a couple of years ago, and it was great. I haven't gotten around to getting the DVD and/or CD they produced of that tour but I really need to. Beyond Nature is another classic instrumental record (with a lot of C.S. Lewis shout-outs).
