Being a relatively new SF59 fan (only been following them for about a year), my recently bought vinyl copy of Sliver is the only version of Silver I have. Unfortunately, as you know, it doesn't come with the original artwork. Would anyone know of any way (besides buying the CD, which I may end up doing) that I would be able to see the original artwork?
Thanks, Jordan

I've got the extended edition of silver, I don't know if that is different from the original artwork or not. The only artwork is just on the front of the case the rest is just silver. Here is the complete cover art for all of starflyers cds: http://www.sf59fans.com/wiki/index.php?title=Album_Cover_Gallery

The artwork on the Extended Edition of Silver is indeed different from the original artwork. The original cover was completely silver, with no art or text, and the liner notes apparently had lyrics to some (but not all) of the songs. And the back cover had a logo with an airplane on it.
Gold (Extended Edition) received a similar downgrade in artwork, which is a pity because the original liner notes were really cool.

Do you think it was a bad idea for them to release extended editions of "Gold" and "Silver"? Keeping in mind that it's pretty hard to get hold of an original copy of "le vainqueur" and "She's the Queen".

I like the Silver artwork but the Gold artwork is, in my opinion, hands down the best crafted, perfect for the album artwork. Almost worth buying the album just for everything in it.

The silver and gold art work were originally very very good. I know when Brandon Ebel first started Tooth & Nail, he wanted everything to be really great for the bands he signed, so he went all out with full color artwork, thick booklets, etc. I myself was really impressed with Silver when I first saw it, and agree that the Gold art was perfect for the album. If you can get ahold of the physical cds, then you'll see what I mean. The expanded editions just don't measure up to the originals. Some think that they even sound better (?)

That brings up another question I have. Since I don't have Gold yet, would it be better to go for the original or the remastered edition? I'm thinking that since sometimes the remastered versions of albums just end up louder, and, in this case, wouldn't include the artwork, it may be better to go for the original release.

It was probably a good idea just to save people the trouble of finding the other albums. Yet, it's a Tooth and Nail thing to re-release stuff to make more money. That's what they're doing with Ghosts. I've been listening to Gold a lot in the car lately and I don't really like the remixed Gold. The old mix wasn't the greatest, but it had a warm sound to it. If it was mixed by Jason it probably has the "Loudness War" issues. I see no reason to buy the remixed album and listen to the new version instead of the old. That brings up another question I have. Since I don't have Gold yet, would it be better to go for the original or the remastered edition? I'm thinking that since sometimes the remastered versions of albums just end up louder, and, in this case, wouldn't include the artwork, it may be better to go for the original release.
Go for the older version because it has better artwork and sound. You should listen to the newer stuff on the Internet and then make your decision.

I think you're right about it sounding warmer. Kind of the way that vinyl has that warmer sound to it

Thanks... that artwork is awesome! Also, I appreciate the feedback on which edition of Gold to buy. After listening to them, I've decided to go for the original for the artwork and "fuzzier" sound.
