One of the things I admire about Jason's writing is how he uses so many different types of drum intros into songs.  "I Drive A Lot," "Lifeguard," "Days of Lamech," "Play the C Chord," "When You Feel the Mess," "My Name," etc.  Any favorites?  I think "I Drive A Lot" has to be mine.  I'm just amazed at how creative these get.

its really hard to beat "i drive a lot" for drum intros. and all the ones you listed are also great. when you can recognize a song in two beats without any notes, you know its a great drum intro.

i kinda miss the way jason used to open each album with a drum intro -
americana with the voyager
the fashion focus with i drive a lot
everybody makes mistakes with play the c chord

it seemed to happen with his shift away from massive sets of guitar amps and pedals - silver and gold open with guitars. and after a three album stretch of opening right into the song (Old, Talking Voice..., and My Island) Dial M opened with a bass line.

Cloud usually rooted the chord on the A string. Great tone, nothing fancy. The last two albums, especially, have had some really mobile basslines. Maybe we're in for a stretch of three albums with bass openings?

Indianna's post made me think we were only talking about drum intros at the beginning of the album. But we're not, so here goes!

I second "When You Feel the Mess," "Days of Lamech," and "Just Try" and I'll raise you these:
"All Done Wrong"
"Next Time Around"
"No More Shows" - definitely tops for me
"Card Games and Old Friends"
"Family Line"
"Le Vainqueur"

Yeah... I just went through and listened to all the intros. Cheesy

Family Line - forgot all about that intro. so weird, and so good.
And I think we missed "The Translator"
What a great way to go back and listen to all those songs.
I'm still sticking with "I Drive A Lot."

LOL!  I was just thinking about the song.  If I remember correctly, it's just three beats in the first measure.  Technically you are correct but it hardly seems to qualify when compared the intros of songs like No More Shows and Days of Lamech.
