The Bloomington, Indiana record labels Crossroads of America Records and Flannelgraph Records are happy to announce their 2010 3" compact disc subscription service, Laminar Excursion Monthly.
This joint effort brings together the rosters of both labels as well as such notable artists as Richard Swift, Damien Jurado, Cotton Jones, J. Tillman, Desolation Wilderness,  Bexar Bexar, Danny Grody (of Tarentel and The Drift), Saxon Shore, and a host of others.
Subscribers will receive two new 3" cds at the beginning of every month of 2010.  A unique box to hold the discs will be sent with the initial shipment.
Even if the rest of your world falls apart, you can still count on having two new compact discs arriving in your mailbox each month for the entire year.
Laminar Excursion Monthly will be limited to 100 subscribers.
The yearly subscription fee, including postage, is $45.00 until January 1st.
If any subscriptions are still available at that point, the fee will be raised to $50.00.
Subscriptions will be available at www.xrarecords.com beginning Monday, November 2nd.

I mainly got it for Cotton Jones and Swift, and just the fact that it seemed like a cool idea.

Unfortunately, I haven't listened much as my portable CD player apparently makes 3" CD's skip.  Undecided

At some point I'll have to convert them all to normal CD so I can listen on the road (where I get most of my listening done). Unfortunately, it seems most computers want to turn your files into MP3 instead of keeping them in original full WAV form.

the CJ and Swift contributions are both great! bummer about your player, though.
i've been really happy with all of the music so far. there are still a lot of great ones coming down the tube, too. including vollmar and bexar bexar, just to name a couple...

Did anyone get their last December shipment?
I'll have to doublecheck, but I'm pretty sure November's had Oct/Nov together, and don't remember receiving the final 2 yet.

Nothing comes up on my e-mail about it, and they usually give a head's up if something is late.

Ok, cool. So you are the one behind the label?

I've been loving all the discs. I got the subcription because i knew there would be discs from Damien Jurado and J. tillman but was very glad to get the disc from Blaster The Rocket Man/Voice Of The Mysterons/Dr NoBot. .. been waiting on new material from these guys for years!  Looking forward to the last installment!  Hey Mike...any chance on doing some kind of subscription in 2011?

no, nothing in 2011. we didn't have time to prepare since LEM was happening, but we've tossed around a few ideas for 2012...we'll see!

glad you've been liking this stuff, btw. i've been really happy with everyone's contributions so far. the last ones are on the way soon, and they're good too!

Swift announced a Walt Wolfman EP today. Are these the same songs, just released on vinyl/MP3 by Secretly Canadian?

Looks like the same tracks to me. I don't have the LE box right near me at the moment, but the titles all seem identical. Good stuff, too--glad to see it's getting a wider release.

It appears to have the same tracks with the addition of the song "Whitman" which is given as a free stream/download.

I'm wondering if they remixed it or anything, because if I remember correctly the vocals on the Laminar EP were all distorted to the point it almost made it annoying to me (and I like pretty much anything Swift does). "Whitman" on the other hand has a very clean sounding vocal, so either the rest are remixed or this one will stand out from the others.
