How do you think the side projects compare to Starflyer? Bon Voyage, Neon Horse, The Brothers Martin, etc.

If you count Pony Express, I think "Becoming What You Hate" is on par with any SF59 album.  I love that record to death.

Jason's work in side projects sounds exactly like Starflyer 59, IMO. It's the other members that change the sound here and there to their own name.

Kinda like how I Am the Portuguese Blues was supposed to be a side project, but ended up being a Starflyer 59 release. Tongue

I love the First Bon Voyage album and the VBM BonVoyage vinyls etc.  the second and third albums are okay, but the first really is great Americana meets Fashion Focus and they give birth to a super cute girl.

great, great album and right up there with the classic 90's sf59.

Absolutely - all the songs on the self-titled album are awesome.  The last one had some good songs but they absolutely hit it perfectly with the first BV album.

Agreed!  I just listened to this album yesterday (for the millionth time) and it is on par with the best SF59 albums.

I've only heard the first Bon Voyage album, because I own it, but I think I can honestly say I've only listened to that only two or three times and was really disappointed with it. I'll give it another listen though since I saw this thread.

Bon Voyage is basically Jason's songs sung by a woman. There are only 3 Bon Voyage albums so they are all from different time periods if you compare to the Starflyer albums of that time period. I actually like all three albums, although I don't put them on par with the best Starflyer albums.

I'm the lone voice of dissent--I'm pretty "meh" on the self-titled album (though "West Coast Friendship" is one of the top songs Jason's ever written), but I'd definitely rank the latter two albums up there with the rest of sf59.
