It seems to be borderline negligent that you cant even pre order the thing from the label yet.  I always preorder from amazon, and I don't know what their deal is with not having it available.  I broke down and preordered it from barnes and noble: http://music.barnesandnoble.com/The-Changing-of-the-Guard/Starflyer-59/e/5099930792029/?itm=4&USRI=starflyer+59.  I'm kinda hoping it leaks soon so I can at least listen to it by it's actual release date, as I doubt I'll be getting it before Wednesday.

Also...for you non-US folks, it seems to be streaming on Spotify already: http://open.spotify.com/album/6tRAxYbRiZpsmKE08eMo5e.

There are purchase links on the album page for anyone looking to buy the album online.

That review is literally two sentences long. One of them a ridiculous run-on sentence. I am incapable of taking the opinion expressed in that review seriously.

sigh. some people just don't get it.

looks like an opinionated paraphrase of the band's very poorly-written bio for the new record.

seems like no one in the music industry really wants to put any more effort in to Starflyer anymore.

label = suck/half-assed
reviews = suck/half-assed

XRA, BTV (fans) = last hope

i'm grateful for that, at least. thanks to Crossroads and Burnt Toast (and this board) for without which we'd have no knowledge any new Starflyer release was coming out.

i just had to write a reply to that review.  if the dude's not going to even try, then why bother?  even if he doesnt like it, he should give more examples why and also try to point out at least one or two good things about it. those christians and their terrible websites.

Not enough uses of the word "Jesus" to suit the tastes of the reviewer, perhaps?

And the label is being VERY half-assed about promoting this one. Jason's pretty much done with touring, so my very opinionated guess is that Ebel isn't going to put much money into something he's not going to make a ton out of. (Remember, the production costs of a Starflyer album are pretty low since Jason records in his own studio and self-produces.)

Ebel's philosophy on promotion has always been that a band has to tour to promote an album. He always talks like it is the only way to get sales.  I don't agree with that fully, but you can see that pattern in all T&N artists - once they stop touring, the promotion disappears.

Distribution is also a huge cost - its not all in production and promotion.  But just because Jason self-produces and self-records, does that mean the label saves that money? I always thought it meant that the artists also get paid what would have gone to other people.

Hey Guys,
Those with test pressing 7" issues, hit me up by e-mail and we'll sort out replacements.
Everyone else interested in the vinyl, I was just told that the LP pressing was delayed waiting for a shipment of white vinyl because the plant has been out for a while. Since it's going to be 4 or 5 more weeks for more white vinyl, I changed the color. So, slight delay, but hopefully copies will be shipping within a week.

ha. so the guy from CMZ totally erased my comment suggesting he try a little harder in his Starflyer review. haha oh well.

i got a better review from a dude on last.fm -

"My independent record store will sell albums the friday before they're released if they know you well enough. And since I've acquainted myself with everyone there.. well yeah. And the cd is AWESOME, definitely distinguishes itself from past releases. Best thing I could compare it to is a mix of Johnny Cash, Pixies, and the BeatlesMaybe. In terms of sound, it is most similar to Old, in both lyrics (which deal with growing up and changing) and musical tone (there's a return of the Organ!) The drums are especially awesome for this record too. You'll really like it. Cheesy "
