What we have is an infestation of spambots.

I'll message Stephen about doing something.

I wonder if there shouldn't be a backup of the wiki somewhere. Also is there a way to make it so you have to log in with a username to edit it?

Did anyone ever look at it? I'm sorry I haven't been around; life has been exceptionally busy. IIRC the wiki software didn't have a lot of really good security or antispam features. :/

Why not just have it a link to the Wikipedia page? No need to worry about bots and such then. I wish the Gallery was operational, with some concert photos.

Wikipedia would probably delete half the stuff we have in our Wiki as "too obscure" or whatever - they are pretty strict now-a-days.

Yes, our newest, kindly webmaster has been working on the wiki for us.

And yes, the point of having our own wiki is so we can provide the minutest details, like why Jason smokes cigarettes, and his kids' names. I mean, things like individual song pages.

Yeah, wikipedia can be pretty pretentious. The editors on there have more power than they should. There's too much self-importance that they place on their own site. Like determining who is worthy to be in their encyclopedia. A lot of the stuff on there about Christianity and politics is also written from a nasty liberal slant.

Has anyone tried?

Stuff like lyrics, of course is not allowed. But most of it should be fine.. You just need some sources.

From the Joy Electric wiki page:

This article may contain an excessive amount of intricate detail that may only interest a specific audience. Please relocate any relevant information, and remove excessive trivia, praise, criticism, lists and collections of links. (April 2008)

See, I don't know why they don't say that about bands like, oh, say, Duran Duran. The JE wiki page used to be marked as being too "essay-like" and with that assessment I can agree, but too detailed in general?

Well I kinda agree on the JE page.. Tongue
Duran Duran is too popular, so I can see how it would be ok.

If we could have a Wiki for SMF, you wouldn't need to make an account when you already have your forum account. And spam bots wouldn't be out to spam the wiki..
Maybe try this: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=272676.0
