Would anyone buy it if it was available?

Yes, I would. I E-mailed Velvet blue about it, too, but they never responded.

Jason told me last year that the sound quality for Plugged was not good enough for vinyl.

I would agree for the most part. But if there's a demand for it, why not release it? He's probably at that point in his musical career that he doesn't want to re-release anything that's not recorded properly.

I wouldn't get Plugged.  I think releasing every album/ep on vinyl depreciates the luster of the good quality vinyl releases.  I actually wish Jason would be a bit more choosy when it comes to that.  Here is my take on the vinyls.

Good:  Absolutely makes sence!

-The Drop (Because it was the first vinyl release)
-Goodbyes Are Sad (Because it was never a CD release)
-Ghosts of the Future (It's obvious, the artwork and box make it the best vinyl release)
-The Fashion Focus + 7" (Inclusion of the 7" bonus)
-Everybody Makes Mistakes + 7" (Inclusion of the 7" bonus)

Fair:  Neither good or bad, worth buying

-Gold
-Americana
-Portugues Blues (Considering artwork and J. Edward Keyes)
-Leave Here a Stranger

Bad:  Detracts from the collection

-The Last Laurel
-Talking Voices vs. Singing Voices
-Silver
-Dial M

Silver is a must have on vinyl. I just wonder what took so long to get it out. I wouldn't put Dial M on the bad list either. I love my vinyl copy of Dial M.

Don't get me wrong, I love all SF59 releases, I just think in comparison to the other vinyl releases, some don't add any value to the collection.  My rationale.  Silver on vinyl is an afterthought.  TV vs. SV and Dial M are "overly" produced and don't really pass along that analog feel.  The Last Laurel print and package (clear sleeve) quality is awful.  Just my opinion.

Really?  I was showing a friend my vinyl collection the other day and he saw the Last Laurel and held it up to his wife and said, "isn't this the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?"  I love it.

this is crazy! i understand you like vinyl to have some exclusivity (extra 7", tracks only available on vinyl), but to say their other records don't need to be on vinyl is crazy. if you like vinyl just to collect, that's one thing... but vinyl is the superior music medium. all of their music should be on vinyl, because it will sound better than the cds. Silver sounds absolutely stunning on vinyl and I think Dial M sounds really great too. But anything they release i'll buy, simply cause it sounds better and its a better listening experience.

I don't believe vinyl magically adds extra musical info that never existed in the sources, but there's something definitely cool about putting a record on to play over putting on a CD, so it's nice to have vinyl copies of things. It's kind of like... taking a walk somewhere, versus just driving. That's a poor analogy.

AFIK, the sound doesn't make much of a difference unless it's coming from an analog source.

A little off-topic, but wasn't the Silver vinyl put together from a digital source? Seems like the original tapes were missing or something.

Actually, vinyl is mastered at a higher resolution than CDs, allowing for clearer reproduction of music, which is what most people refer to as the "warmth" of vinyl.  So even if a record is recorded digitally, vinyl can still more accurately reproduce the source material.  Also, there is less compression applied to the master (which ideally is a separate master from CDs) which allow for more dynamics, i.e. quiet parts of the song can stay quiet and allow for more feeling when the musicians play harder or louder.
So while its not adding extra information that wasn't present in the original source, it is a more accurate reproduction of the source than what you hear on a CD or mp3 download (usually).

silver was recorded digitally, no analog tape. we used the 1994 mastering job for the vinyl version. i prefer it to the remaster. i appreciate the 2005 version, but it's a little to smashed for me. and the kick drum has too much of a "click" to it for my taste.

i just noticed how much "click" looks like "D". the remaster had too much "D" to it for my taste, too.
