For the die-hard Jason Martin fan: back in '98 Jason lent his guitar talents to some songs from Steve Hindalong's (drummer for alt.rock band the Choir) solo album, called Skinny. How the connection was made I don't know, but it was a good one, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Jason was on the album.

One song in particular is "Seven Colors" features a solo by Jason which is awfully reminiscent of the softer songs from Americana, such as "Harmony". It's a really lovely song.

Anyway, it's a nice album as it is, and Jason's presence (along with the rest of the cast of supporters) just makes it better, and if you like Sf59 you might enjoy the album. It can be had for pretty cheap on Amazon.

I think Skinny is a great glimpse into the Steve Hindalong you just don't see with the Choir or with his worship stuff.  He's always really personal and confessional, but Skinny takes it up another notch.  The frailty of his vocal delivery was a little tough to listen to at first, but once you realize that it's just Hindalong laying himself out there, it gets a lot more palettable and even beautiful.

Although I'm not a huge Steve Hindalong fan, I own the record and really love Seven Colours.  I was listening to it at the Christian Bookstore I worked at at the time, and had actually scanned the liners for mention of anybody I liked (Wayne Everett was all over that one), but didn't see JM in there anywhere.  Seven Colours came on and instantly my ears perked up and I grabbed the liners for a double check and saw the "luau guitar" credited to none other than Mr. Martin himself.  He's on one other song also, playing the left channel or something like that.

Love the Choir, love Steve and this album. Although I do like Derri's vocals better.  This album is great and full of people I really like with all of Skinny's connections! Wayne, Jason Mike Knott, Is Mike Roe and Terry Taylor on it? Seems like a bunch of people!
