Does anything think this lyric is a veiled hint at Martin laying sf59 to rest?  Embarrassed

if that is true, it's probably cuz Brandon Ebel is tired of paying for his "favorite band" that sells fewer than 1000 physical units nationally.

i'm tired of Tooth & Nail. i really love the new record though. i hope he keeps making more music, but if the the way this release was handled is any indication, T & N just doesn't want to put the effort in any more. hell, the just signed 3 new bands to replace him this month!

they've got Ivoryline and Family Force Five and Queen's Club albums to sell now. Starflyer who?

Heh, you guys are bringing this on yourselves. Jason said he's not planning on stopping anytime soon. Why do you keep suggesting that this is the last album?
Honestly, every Starflyer album can be called a last album. Starflyer focuses on the negative and sorrow as well as the personal life perspective, rather than a burning concept album after album. This is normal.

Jason won't quit music and only do truck driving. Especially when he does music for others, not just for his own 2 family bands. Roll Eyes

I have to admit that constant speculation of the end is getting a bit lame.

Both the speculation and the dissing of T&N is getting pretty lame, imo. Jason might not get the kind of promotion that he did years ago (I miss those years - model planes, huge posters, stickers, t-shirts) but he is still getting a lot of exposure. More than he would by releasing his stuff independently. There is a reason why Jason is still with Tooth and Nail. And I, for one, am glad that he still is.

And what's wrong with JR McNeely? The new album sounds phenomenal.  Kiss

i'm not being anti-tooth & nail. there was a point in his career where they were very beneficial for each other. i just don't think he needs tooth & nail. what do they really do for him now?

record labels just don't function the same way they did 10 years ago. with the age of the internet, and having an established fanbase (that seriously won't grow or deminish too much at this point), without touring... he doesn't need them. and clearly they don't need him.

i have no problem with tooth & nail. i just sometimes wonder what his records and releases would be like now, in 2010, without a label, or a different type of label for that matter.

We interview a lot of bands, and it is sometimes surprising how little music you can sell without a label.  Even when a band is like SF59 and not getting a huge label push, they can still sell 2-3 times more albums than even the most popular indie band.  There are just still a surprising number of people that still get their music by magazine ads and bookstores and all that junk.  I wish it wasn't so, but I've had too many bands tell me otherwise.  They like how the Internet can get their name out there, get hem some recognition that they otherwise wouldn't have - but I have had so many bands tell me that there is just still no replacement for the distribution system that labels bring.  Just not yet at least.  They will die someday... just not yet.

Without T&N (or at least some other label), probably at least half of SF59's fan base wouldn't know about new albums.  Even Steve Hindalong recently posted on Facebook complaining about how SF59 had a new album out and nobody told him.
