Are there any songs that you're surprised by the popularity of among Starflyer fans? I think I'm most surprised by how popular No New Kinda Story is. I mean, I like it a lot myself, but for some reason is seems like a random song for so many people to like. It might just be because it's one of those songs that I like, but I not sure why I like it, like some other songs on that album. Other than that I didn't realize Indiana was so well-liked. For me it wasn't one of the standout tracks on Gold, although the break-majig from 2:54-3:18 is one of my favorite Starflyer moments.

No New Kinda Story is a pretty catchy shoegaze song on first listen. 20 dollar bills has always been a ghost track for me.. but seems like it's pretty popular.

They did a video for Housewife Love Song, which I've never particularly cared for, especially since Duel Overhead Cam is a better song if only for that final riff with the drums rolling on the snare. Then, all of a sudden the guitar comes in and just blows you away.

Do a lot of people like "We're the Ordinary"? I think I remember seeing someone once praise that song highly, and I just didn't understand where he was coming from.

Agreed 100% on No New Kinda Story. It's also the song that my ex really fell in love with when she was first introduced to SF59. I just don't get it. EMM is my favorite post-colors album, and NNKS is among my least favorite on the album. It's not bad, just doesn't connect with me as anywhere close to their best work, let alone on that album.

Agreed as well. No New Kinda Story never sounded full enough to me. I prefer the drum beat on the live version on Easy Come Easy Go. I've been listening to Gold a lot lately and that feedback crescendo is just gorgeous. Hard on the ears if it's too loud but it's an explosive riff right after.

Playing Gold for the uninitiated and watching them squirm through the drum roll/feedback section of "Duel Overhead Cam" before the final riff is always interesting.
That's awesome... I need to do that more.

"No New Kinda Story" was the first SF59 I heard and the one that got me hooked, but the only reason I heard it was because it was on a Tooth and Nail sampler. I guess it was the closest thing to "single" on that album in that it had a video and it appeared on sampler discs (of course, when you're on Tooth and Nail I'm not sure how much having a "single" really matters).
I think "NNKS" is just a really concise package of several of Jason's strength's. I love the shoegazey verse and that melody I think is just wonderful. Plus, the reverby guitar is just gorgeous. The secret agent bridge comes out of nowhere, but it's sort of cool I guess.

I used to have a copy of that one. Ended up giving it away at a white elephant gift exchange.
