Any fans? Cooking up something quasi-epic, just wondering if anyone here would care...

I love Roadside Monument. The only current projects by the members that i know of are Unwed Sailor and Native Lights (Jonathan Ford), and Patrol (Doug Lorig). All great bands. I've been wondering though whats the point behind the Patrol song "Skullf$#%ing Sufjan Stevens". Seems like a malicious song title but i can't understand the words. I have not heard much about Matt Johnson doing much musically lately. Also does anyone have the live cassette? Its the only roadside related release i don't have

yeah, i could make a copy and post it. i need to make a new copy, because evidently i made it at 128 kbps, and it sounds... badish. Tongue i hated the version they posted on RM.com, because it was also 128 kbps, but they cut out the banter between songs :-/ so it was just the songs (theres only banter between like... 2 songs anyway) but this week or next i may try to digitize it again, but doing it with better equipment, and maybe doing it at 192, or the next highest integer.

alright, here's the link: Roadside Monument - Live At The Velvet Elvis

i decided screw it, and did it at 320 kbps.

i tried some EQ, to take out the low end, but after fiddling with it, i decided to leave it alone and leave it as is, to keep the purity of the original recording intact.

i was more concerned with the tape hiss noise. i tried, and tried, to get rid of that... but some parts (like the guitar plucking at the begining of Crop Circles, as well as A Spanish Trail, as well as between song banter is basically ingrained in the tape noise.) i tried a few different techniques to take it out, but after i was done each time those parts were GREATLY damaged because they are basically part of the noise. especially the between song banter, when they were talking it sounded like listening to a 28 kbps mp3. VERY garbled and damaged. so after many passes and attempts, i decided it best to just leave the tape noise intact.

i did, though, do some volume enhancements, and i lessened the dynamic range by about 1 db, (nothing extreme at all... but it did enhance some parts, and make some parts not as... ear drum busting)

and i also put it in iTunes and added artwork, as well as ID3 v2.3 tags Smiley

so there ya go.

This stuff is great.  It's been so long since I saw them live, I almost forgot how great they were.

i love(d) roadside monument!!!  i got to see them at cornerstone in '97 and again in '98 - in fact there are a couple songs on youtube uploaded by matt (drummer) that i sent him via dvd awhile back.  matt johnson is one of my favorite drummers.

doug lorig is now in a band from seattle called Patrol (they are awesome too!)
jonathon ford lives in tulsa,ok and plays in unwed sailor, the punk rock band broncho, and native lights
matt johnson records and plays some  and is active in his church
