Biography
Jason and Julie Martin met each other in the Orange County California music scene of the 1990's. Julie originally sang back up vocals in Havalina Rail Co. She also worked for a while at Starflyer 59's label, Tooth and Nail Records, and even appeared in the music video for Starflyer 59's song "A Housewife Love Song." Jason and Julie's collective interests brought them together. They got married in March of 1996, and their mutual love for music soon gave birth to Bon Voyage.
Jason Martin had this to say about Bon Voyage: "We don't want to sound like Alanis or any of those angry girls. Julie and I wanted to make catchy pop songs about love and friendship. We wanted to make an album that was refreshing and lighter than SF59, and that's what I think we accomplished."
Bon Voyage's sound has been compared to Ivy and the Sundays. They originally released two 7 inch singles for Velvet Blue Music that received an incredible response from fans. Julie and Jason decided to keep the band going since they enjoyed recording the singles so much. Bon Voyage approached BEC Recordings about recording a full length album, who instantly agreed to put it out.
Bon Voyage's self-titled debut was recorded with Gene Eugene at Gene's infamous Green Room in Huntington Beach. The resulting album was a collection of ten catchy hits that showcased a clean, fresh sound. One reviewer stated that the sound was "reminiscent in tone to the daydream pop songs of the fifties but with a Euro, post-modern edge."
After a hiatus of a few years, Bon Voyage returned with The Right Amount, continuing their foray into daydream pop. They went silent for a few more years, but in 2007 the official Bon Voyage MySpace page announced that they ar still recording music. A new album has been completed.
