Dance House Children

From Starflyer 59 Wiki

Dance House Children in 1992

Dance House Children was an early Christian syth/pop band that broke new ground in the Christian music scene. In the liner notes of Jesus, Ronnie described its music as trendy, club-oriented rave music. All Dance House Children songs were written and performed by Ronnie Martin and Jason Martin.

Biography

Dance House Children started out as as a guitar rock band called Morella's Forest. Morella's Forest actually recorded one album for Narrowpath records that was never released. When Narrowpath fell through, the Martin brothers changed names to "Love Children" and recorded a demo of techno pop songs. Ronnie gave the demo to Michael Knott as he was forming Blonde Vinyl Records. Michael liked what he heard, but didn't like the name. He suggested "Dance House Jesus" instead. The brothers ended up combining both names and signed with Michael Knott's label.

Dance House Children albums used poetic imagery set to a sound that displayed an obvious Pet Shop Boys influence. Occasional songs, like Sea Breeze, showcased Jason Martin's dizzying, psychedelic side. They recorded two albums for Blonde Vinyl records before Blonde Vinyl ran into problems and folded. Jason left to form Starflyer 2000 (later re-names Starflyer 59).

Michael Knott formed a new label (Siren Music) and Ronnie Martin recorded one more album as Dance House Children. Unusual packaging led to some confusion with the third Dance House Children album; some people thought it was a new band called Rainbow Rider. Ronnie stated later that this album was meant to be a third Dance House Children album. Beautiful Dazzling Music No.2 was never recorded. Siren Music also went out of business. Ronnie went on to form Joy Electric after this.

Rainbow Rider: Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1 was re-released in 1998 by Velvet Blue Music with one bonus track. Velvet Blue Music also released a 7 inch record in 1996 with two songs from Rainbow Rider: Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1. Jesus was re-released in 1999 by M8 Records.

Jason and Ronnie teamed up in 2006 to form The Brothers Martin.
